The revolvograph is a camera I have invented and designed to turn the subjects into abstract coloured patterns by spinning at 1800 rotations per minute.
The revolvograph consists of the combination of a high speed rotating motor with a digital camera connected to it. The motor is spinning at 30 rotations per second (1800 rpm) while at the same time the camera is recording 30 frames per second. In other words, for every frame of the video being captured, the camera is doing a full revolution. The effects created are abstract moving patterns of colours in concentric circles.
The lens can be mounted at the center of the shaft to create concentric circles, or perpendicular to it to create horizontal patterns.
Here for Flavien Berger’s song “88888888”, the entire video was filmed at 1800 rotation per minute in outdoor funfairs and studio environment in order to control the coloured patterns with different lights.
